The dynamic of coastal marine microphytoplankton communities is characterized by successions of species assemblages displaying typical schemes of spatio-temporal variability. Numerous studies of phytoplankton spatio-temporal variability have concerned holistic variables such as total biomass or primary production. Such studies deal with the role of primary producers in the global functioning of the pelagic ecosystem, but have little relevance to other problematics. This Atlas puts the list of main diatoms from phytoplanktonic collects carried out in the French waters and bordering marine areas. A simple key of genera is set up and listed species are illustrated by photographies obtained with light microscope, and by drawings.

Bilan 1992 de la contamination des côtes françaises par les composés organostanniques ArchiMer

Au cours du printemps 1992, un échantillonnage systématique a permis d'évaluer le niveau de la contamination des côtes françaises par les composés organostanniques. Le tributyl étain (TBT) a été mesuré dans la phase dissoute avec ses produits de dégradation dibutyl étain (DBT) et monobutyl étain (MBT). Les concentrations mesurées restent importantes dans les zones portuaires et les zones de mélanges. Ces concentrations sont le plus souvent excessives lorsqu'on se réfère au seuil toxique de 1ng.1-1 pour lequel des effets sont connus sur l'huître et certains autres mollusques. Phycotoxin monitoring in France : risk-based strategy and main results (2006-2008) ArchiMer

Toxin monitoring is carried out along the coasts of France by a national network, REPHY, which is the National Monitoring Network for Phytoplankton and Phycotoxins. Sampling strategy differs according to the type of zone coastal or offshore and to the family of toxins. For PSP and ASP toxins, monitoring is based on the detection of toxic phytoplankton species. For lipophilic toxins, a systematic analysis of toxins is performed in risk areas during high risk periods. Experimental monitoring for palytoxins has also been conducted along the Mediterranean coast since 2007. The total number of toxin analyses is in the order of 2500 to 3000 per year.
